Today Niilo is moving to short term rehab in the Aspen Wing of the Denali Center. This is right next door to the hospital. I don’t have a room number yet, but someone there will know it.

Moving to Aspen? For a moment I thought it might be the Colorado ski resort. But maybe the surroundings at the AK Aspen will lift his spirits. Love, H
Yes, Harry, he was surely more spirited today. I am waiting for Heather’s report so what we post won’t be so goofy (as if. You know, of course, that goofy and irreverent defines this kid). I was with Dad and Heather at Aspen a portion of today, but it was a zoo. His doctor, evaluators for Pioneer’s Home, a visitor (Dieterich Stohmeier sorry if misspelled….from 1952 and the like talking about the Alaska Party), signing forms, all that stuff….
Heather is doing so very much, but will be horrified if once again I post that she is amazing. Middle Sister–Me!–is doing other things (mostly Kop oriented), but Heather continues to amaze by being a fabulous Niilo advocate. Her long time one sheet of paper listing all medical issues blew away one of the professionals interviewing today: never seen all the medical info in one place so tidy before in many years of doing this. Heather, thanks!
Yes, I think Aspen at Denali Center is beautifully put together. I even did a tour around to see birds, Athabaskan folk art, piano and art rooms, much more….it has been some years since I have been here. Mom (Joan) was here after her head injury. I still think back to the care giver who was shampooing her hair when she first spoke: brings tears to my eyes how moving it was for the care giver and for me. And I also ran into Mom’s “case manager” and was amazed she hadn’t blown a fuse. This is hard work for people. (One of Mom’s long unders was washed regular but must have been some special fabric, and came out looking like Barbie clothes. This is what I thought of when I saw the case manager. So sorry.) Other side of the story is that the financial papers I signed today were being managed by Pauline, who is my SON Max’s cohort through the Fairbanks school system. Wow, am I ancient!
