{"id":250,"date":"2011-01-22T12:30:27","date_gmt":"2011-01-22T21:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/koponenalaska.wordpress.com\/?p=250"},"modified":"2011-01-22T12:30:27","modified_gmt":"2011-01-22T21:30:27","slug":"250","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/koponenalaska.org\/?p=250","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Friends (writes Joan),<\/p>\n<p> \t\u201cSo it\u2019s January 2011.\u201d The weather has been seasonal, down to -36 F downtown, often 14 degrees warmer at the homestead. <\/p>\n<p>Joan has been \u201c enjoying hearing Alice\u2019s Restaurant for the 100th time&#8230; enjoying eating also;<br \/>\n\tknitting,<br \/>\n\tseeing wildlife out the window, like chickadees, grouse, woodpeckers, ravens, moose,<br \/>\n\t\tand recently tracks (maybe porcupine);<br \/>\n\tdoing crossword puzzles,<br \/>\n\tjigsaw puzzles,<br \/>\n\tvisiting Niilo at Pioneers Home,<br \/>\n\tgoing bowling,<br \/>\n\tplaying cards,<br \/>\n\tsinging and visiting on sauna nights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\tNiilo has declined in the past year, waking little, and rarely communicating. Alex &amp; Heather go with Joan to visit him several times a week, Hospice volunteer DeVonne visits him weekly,  and others visit him occasionally.   He ceased being able to stand to transfer to a vehicle in the fall, so has not been able to visit the homestead or attend Quaker meeting, so Quakers join him at the Pioneers Home occasionally for meditation.<\/p>\n<p>\tChena spends time with Joan at the homestead 3 days a week; Alex continues bowling and movies with her 3 times a week; Heather in a room at the homestead spends time every day.<\/p>\n<p>\tThe homestead had major construction in summer 2010 with re-insulation of a large section of roof and other parts; Chena and Gary oversaw this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Friends (writes Joan), \u201cSo it\u2019s January 2011.\u201d The weather has been seasonal, down to -36 F downtown, often 14 degrees warmer at the homestead.
